Every summer, Edinburgh transforms into a global stage for the arts, attracting performers and visitors alike from all over the world.
The summer calendar of Edinburgh Festivals kicks off in July with the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival. Held over 10 days, the festival is one of the largest jazz festivals in Europe.
August is an incredibly exciting time to be in Edinburgh, with six festivals that take place alongside each other. See a diverse range of shows including comedy, dance, circus and cabaret at the Edinburgh Fringe; watch some of the finest performers and ensembles from the worlds of dance, opera, music and theatre at the Edinburgh International Festival; or immerse yourself in the Edinburgh Art Festival, the UK’s largest annual festival dedicated to visual art.
For book lovers, the Edinburgh International Book Festival gathers authors, poets, philosophers and thinkers from around the world for a celebration of the written word. Prefer the silver screen? The Edinburgh International Film Festival shines a spotlight on the most exciting film talents in world cinema. Film premieres debuted in Edinburgh include Taxi Driver, The Usual Suspects and Blade Runner.
Perhaps you prefer military history and pageantry? Set against the iconic backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo brings together military bands, pipers, drummers, and dancers from across the globe in a mesmerising show that celebrates both tradition and innovation.
