About the Organisation
Edinburgh Science Foundation is an educational charity that inspires people of all ages and backgrounds around the world to experience the wonder of science and technology. Best known for Edinburgh’s annual Science Festival – the world’s first science festival and still one of the world’s largest – and for our Learning programmes that sees Generation Science tour Scotland and bring science to life in classrooms throughout the year and promotes STEM careers to teens through initiatives such as Careers Hive. An increasing worldwide element shares our content, passion and expertise more widely through an extensive portfolio of international projects.
About the Role
We are seeking interest and CVs from crew, technicians, and production staff with experience in preparation, installation, de-rig, and live operations within a festival and live event setting. As part of our network of contractors, you will support Edinburgh Science as we deliver our multi-disciplinary programme, including our flagship festival in April 2026 and our Generation Science schools touring program. Additional work is also available supporting the general operations of the organisation.
Our production department operates primarily from our warehouse; our base for developing, maintaining, and storing kit. Prior to events, we require assistance at the warehouse to procure, audit, pack, and refurbish our stock. During the delivery of events our needs shift to installation, operation, maintenance and de-rig of event equipment.
Our festival in 2026 consists of a large family-focused activation at the National Museum of Scotland incorporating interactive science, technology, engineering and maths workshops and exhibits. More activations of a similar nature will take place at other indoor and outdoor locations across the city. We also run a talks programme consisting of talks and presentations with a conventional conference-style setup.
About You
Our work spans many disciplines and requires people with multiple skill sets and backgrounds in roles including:
- General stage and event crew
- Lighting, audio and video equipment installation and operation
- Carpentry - set and scenery construction and installation
- Scenic artistry
- Driver-runner duties
- Warehouse duties - auditing, maintenance, packing and preparation of equipment, loading and unloading of vehicles
We have a strong preference for people with a multi-skilled background and the ability to adapt and take on various tasks and roles. We also are interested in other relevant disciplines not listed above. An interest in science and learning is appreciated.
