What to do at Edinburgh's Hogmanay

No place in the world celebrates New Year quite like Edinburgh - or Hogmanay, as they call it in these parts, with that being the Scottish word for the last day of the year (New Year’s Eve, December 31st).

While New Year celebrations occur worldwide, Hogmanay has a distinctly Scottish flair, with traditions and events that set it apart. And unlike other places, Edinburgh's Hogmanay takes place over four days, meaning that its much more like a festival than a fireworks party.

If you’re planning to come along, then why not check out our suggested Itinerary for a visit to Edinburgh's Hogmanay which will help you make the most of this must-see festival.

And if you want to get a sense of what you might experience at the festival, then here are ten of our favourite images from across the 2024 Hogmanay period.
