Each year Edinburgh Science delivers one of Europe’s largest science festivals, a primary school education programme across Scotland, a careers event for secondary school pupils and a variety of international programming activities and projects.  We believe in inspiring, encouraging and challenging people of all ages and backgrounds to explore and understand the world around them.

About the role

This is an exciting senior role that will lead the development and delivery of events for young people in the classroom, at events run for schools and at science festivals where young people are visiting with their families. Working collaboratively with other teams within the organisation you will lead on the creation of effective, world-class family content that maintains Edinburgh Science’s position as a world leader in programming for young people. This remit includes Generation ScienceCareers Hive, our Community Engagement Programmes and on aspects of family Science Festival content.

About you

  • Degree qualified in a STEM subject matter, you will bring an enthusiastic and creative approach to the development and programming of innovative new content and events. You will have a good practical understanding of the techniques of public engagement with science and significant, demonstrable experience in this (or another relevant) field. You will also have understanding and experience of relevant pedagogy and evaluation techniques.
  • You have demonstrable experience in managing cross-functional teams to deliver excellent results.  A natural communicator with strong interpersonal skills, you will enjoy negotiating effectively and you work extremely hard at building and maintaining relationships.   Externally, you have previous experience developing meaningful partnerships and collaborating with multiple stakeholders.
  • You will have the positive and flexible approach needed for our dynamic organisation and be willing to roll your sleeves up and get involved in the some of the smaller but important detail to deliver the end product, so you have a flair for budget management,  administration and systems to help you do this.
