Opera stars to join SCO for Fireworks finalé
August 2018 is drawing to an close and the Edinburgh International Festival will once again mark the end of a successful summer with the Virgin Money Fireworks Concert featuring live opera performances.
The Concert takes place in Princes Street Gardens and features opera stars Lucy Crowe and Nicky Spence with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra performing the music of Leonard Bernstein and Gustav Holst as more than 400,000 fireworks burst high above in perfect choreography with the music.
Spence and Crowe will take on the roles of Tony and Maria from Bernstein's beloved musical West Side Story as the Concert is extended, for the second year in a row, by an additional 30 minutes (without fireworks) ahead of the traditional 9:30pm start time.
After a brief interval, the event will continue with the SCO performing Holst's wonderful Planets suite as the fireworks burst in the skies above Edinburgh Castle.
The Edinburgh International Festival's Virgin Money Fireworks Concert takes place on Monday 27 August 2018, from 9pm and tickets are available now.
