The 2018 Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival will welcome audiences to the General Assembly Hall for the first time this year, adding to an already impressive list of venues spanning the breadth of Edinburgh.

From George Square and the Grassmarket to Dalry and Craigmillar, the diverse range of venues will play host to a similarly varied collection of musical styles and genres throughout the Festival (13-22 July 2018).

This year's venues are: Festival Theatre; Assembly Hall; Teviot Row; George Square; The Jazz Bar; Heriot’s Rugby Club; Lyra Theatre; Meadowbank Church; St Bride's Centre; North Edinburgh Arts CentreOpen Air Events

Festival Theatre

This decadent theatre complete with luxurious red carpet and stunning Victorian decor will play host to some of the Festival’s biggest names this year. With its modern glass-fronted exterior and authentic Victorian auditorium, the theatre combines old and new for a truly memorable Festival experience in the centre of Edinburgh.

Assembly Hall

Playing host to the Jazz Festival for the first time this year, this iconic venue in the heart of Edinburgh offers top-of-the-range facilities, an extra-wide stage and excellent acoustics. Enter from the courtyard on Mound Place which will be transformed into an impromptu bar and Box Office and soak up the Festival atmosphere immediately.

Teviot Row

A regular venue for the city’s festivals, Teviot Row offers an informal gig experience. Each of this impressive building’s spaces provides a unique feel, from cabaret vibes to standing venues where you won’t be able to resist dancing along to the fantastic music on offer.

George Square

This leafy square in the heart of the city plays host to two venues again this year: the intimate circus-styled Piccolo and the larger Spiegeltent, fashioned as a classic cabaret and music salon with traditional wooden booths situated around a central area.

The Jazz Bar

No Jazz Festival would be complete without this effortlessly cool New York-style basement venue. Famed for its brilliant atmosphere and authentic decor, the Jazz Bar is the perfect place for energetic dancing and chilled out appreciation alike.

Heriot’s Rugby Club

This rugby club in the north of the city is transformed into a cabaret-style venue for the Jazz Festival. The clubhouse comes complete with a dancefloor so you can fully embrace the energetic, big band performances taking place in this venue.

Lyra Theatre

Situated in Craigmillar, this venue provides an opportunity to get out of central Edinburgh and check out the south-east of the city. The Lyra Theatre is a year-round artspace and plays host to one of the Festival’s most exciting performances this year.

Meadowbank Church

Another venue which takes the Jazz Festival into new parts of Edinburgh, Meadowbank Church is situated between celebrated sporting venues Easter Road and Meadowbank Stadium. It plays host to just one Jazz Festival gig, but it’s not to be missed.

St Bride's Centre

This Dalry community centre is a new venue for the Jazz Festival in the west of the city and provides another opportunity to see one of the Festival’s most exciting performances.

North Edinburgh Arts Centre

An important community space where residents come together to relax, volunteer and have fun in year round, the North Edinburgh Arts Centre opens its doors to the Jazz Festival for the first time this year. Situated just behind the Muirhouse shopping centre, this venue is easily accessible but takes audiences to an interesting new area for the Jazz Festival.

Open Air Events

As has become a Festival tradition, the opening weekend of the Jazz Festival sees audiences take to the streets for two exciting open-air performances in the heart of the city.

  • The Mardi Gras transforms Edinburgh’s iconic Grassmarket into an all-day street party featuring a variety of exciting bands.
  • The Edinburgh Festival Carnival brings a flamboyant party atmosphere to Princes Street and Princes Street Gardens with world class musicians evoking the carnival spirit in some of the city’s most famous locations.
