Book Festival turns festival memories into poetry - live!

With Edinburgh's Festivals celebrating the 70th anniversary of the city's festival heritage, Edinburgh International Book Festival is joining in, turning people's reminiscences into poetry live on stage in Live Poetry Lab; 70 Years of Festival Memories

The Book Festival's five Poets in Residence will each host an event at the Greenhouse, part of the Festival's new George Street expansion, spontaneously converting stories submitted by the public into creative writing.

The poets taking part are Colin Herd, Jane McKie, Jennifer Williams, Peter Mackay and Ryan Van Winkle, and audiences will get a chance to observe them at work.

The poets' words will appear in real time on screens behind them as they write in response to the memories submitted.

The intention is that the work created over the five events will result in a single unified piece of poetry created collectively.

Want to submit your own memories? Tweet the festival using #LivePoetryLab, or write them down and put them into the Book Festival's Memory Boxes or just hand them in at the events themselves.

All of the Live Poetry Lab; 70 Years of Festival Memories events are free and drop in. The events take place at Greenhouse 1 on George Street from Monday 21 August - Friday 24 August, as follows:
