Video - Edinburgh International Book Festival's Nick Barley
As Edinburgh's Festivals celebrate the 70th anniversary of the festival city, we thought it would be great to hear from the people who put these incredible events together - the festival directors and producers.
In our latest video, here's Nick Barley, Director of the Edinburgh International Book Festival (12-28 August 2017), telling us all about the Festival, why festivals are important, and what it's like to work with the other festivals.

I don't think there's ever been a time when festivals have been more important than they are right now. Festivals have always been part of a political context, part of a democratic context... there's a stronger-than-ever need for us to talk about who we are, where we are going and what society means, and festivals are a perfect place for that.
In early 2017 we launched a range of videos featuring the directors and producers of Edinburgh's major festivals. These include:
Science Festival | Military Tattoo | Jazz & Blues Festival | Art Festival | Storytelling Festival | International Festival | Fringe | Children's Festival | Book Festival | Film Festival | Edinburgh's Hogmanay
The Edinburgh International Book Festival runs from 12-28 August 2017 and the full programme will be launched on Tuesday 13 June. More information about the Festival.
Throughout 2017, we are celebrating the 70th anniversary of Edinburgh's Festivals. Find out more about the 70th anniversary.
