Edinburgh set for Festival Fireworks Finalé
The rousing music of Wagner, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Debussy and Tchaikovsky will thrill and entertain the crowds gathered in Princes Street Gardens - and by radio sets across the city - as the 2014 Virgin Money Fireworks Concert brings Edinburgh's summer festivals to a spectacular close on Sunday 31 August.
As the perfectly choreographed pyrotechnics light up the skies above onlookers' heads, Conductor Garry Walker and Scottish Chamber Orchestra will open proceedings with the soaring majesty (not to mention sheer hum-along-ability) of Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries, followed by Beethoven's dark and powerful Egmont Overture and the glorious War March of the Priests from Mendelssohn's Athalie.
Debussy's Marche Écossaise will bring a bright, energetic pace to the evening, before the familiar, and appropriately explosive, notes of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture conclude the concert with sheer power and grandeur.
Tickets for the Ross Theatre at the heart of Princes Street Gardens are now sold out, but Priority Entry and standard Gardens tickets can still be bought on the Edinburgh International Festival site or via their Box Office at 0131 473 2000.
