Video portraits of International Festival stars

Bringing audiences closer to some of their star names in 2016, Edinburgh International Festival has launched a new collection of video portraits.

Seven artists have taken part in creating the video portraits, offering fascinating insights and inspiration in advance of their various performances and productions. Artists featured include John TiffanyCrystal PiteMarin AlsopJames YorkstonBarry HumphriesMeow Meow and Alan Cumming, talking about how he came to be an actor:

  • Crystal Pite, discussing the joy of creation as a choreographer
  • John Tiffany, on being a director and which projects excite him the most
  • Marin Alsop, describing the process of conducting and bringing sheet music to life
  • Barry Humphries, looking back across his range of characters
  • James Yorkston, considering his first gig, and the privilege of being able to make music
  • Meow Meow, explaining the human vulnerability of performance, and necessity of art in our lives
