Cross The Tracks brings cutting edge to Jazz Festival
Demonstrating the genres' powerful influence across contemporary music of all kinds, Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival's Cross The Tracks is back for more epic partying.
Across five nights at legendary Edinburgh club, La Belle Angèle, crowds will get a chance to enjoy hip hop beats, pulsing electronica, soul, funk and afro-latin vibes.
Bands and artists featured include The Mouse Outfit, The Hot 8 Brass Band, United Vibrations, Werkha, Mop Mop Sound System, Fat-Suit and Samedia Shebeen - details below...
The Mouse Outfit
The Mouse Outfit deliver a scintillating mix of hip hop, soul, jazz and reggae, and are fronted by legend of UK hip hop, Dr Syntax, and Sparkz, described by the festival as a "verbal acrobat".
La Belle Angèle, Tuesday 19 July, 8pm (with DJ set by Nasty P from 7pm)
The Hot 8 Brass Band
Hugely popular every time they visit, The Hot 8 Brass Band are back for another festival appearance, with their roof-raising, funky, jazzy, hip-hoppy marching band sound. Big brass and big drums make for a real big night.
La Belle Angèle, Thursday 21 July, 8pm (with DJ set by Rebecca Vasmant beforehand)
United Vibrations/Mop Mop Sound System
United Vibrations fuse afro-punk and jazz to create a sound inspired by the likes of Fela Kuti and Sun Ra. They'll be joined by the afro-beat music of Mop Mop Sound System in an excellent double header. And as a bonus, a ticket for this gig also gets you into Samedia Shebeen later the same night (see below).
La Belle Angèle, Friday 22 July, 8pm
Samedia Shebeen is a globe-spanning mix of sounds, from African beats to Latin American rhythms and from tropical electronica to New Orleans funk. Plus, a ticket to United Vibrations/Mop Mop (above) gets you in free!
La Belle Angèle, Friday 22 July, 11pm (with special guest Aroop Roy)
Rounding off Cross The Tracks, and the festival itself, comes another double bill, this time with 14-piece jazz/rock/folk collective Fat Suit, and Glasgow producer, Werkha's live band, offering afro-beat, bass, house, jazz, funk and soul. The evening gets underway with electronic music from Edinburgh's Chow Main, and ends with the late night Cross The Tracks after party, hosted by Paradise Palms.
La Belle Angèle, Sunday 24 July, 8pm
Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival runs until 24 July and tickets for all events are on sale. Find out more about the Festival, including links to programme and ticketing details.
