Hogmanay 2016 Street Party tickets on sale
Tickets are now on sale for the world-famous Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party, with organisers promising another stellar line-up to help the city party into 2017.
Although the programme will be kept secret until autumn, music fans can be assured of some great acts, with recent Street Parties featuring performances from Young Fathers, The Twilight Sad, Twin Atlantic, Hot Dub Time Machine, Eddie Reader, Maxïmo Park, Peatbog Faeries and many more.
Across the Street Party arena there will be multiple music stages and giant screens to keep revellers right up to date. Fireworks at 9pm, 10pm and 11pm will tease the crowd in the lead up to the amazing Midnight Moment, when the sky above Edinburgh Castle, Princes Street Gardens and the entire Street Party will be lit up by over 6 tonnes of pyrotechnics.
It's estimated that over 1 billion people will witness the celebration on TVs around the globe, but thousands will be there in person as always, and excitement is starting to build.
Unique Events produce Edinburgh’s Hogmanay on behalf of the City of Edinburgh Council and Director Al Thomson said:
We are already experiencing a huge interest from around the world for tickets to the Street Party. Last year we welcomed visitors from over 80 countries to join the capital’s 3-day celebrations and we can’t wait for Edinburgh to once again show the world how to party at the ‘Home of Hogmanay’.
2016/17 will be the first Hogmanay celebrations to be produced by Thomson and his fellow Director Penny Dougherty, and also the first Edinburgh festival of 2017, in which the Scottish capital will celebrate 70 years as since the birth of the world’s leading festival city in 1947.
Paul Bush OBE, Director of Events at VisitScotland, said:
Edinburgh’s Hogmanay is an occasion known the world-over and one that plays a valuable role in promoting Scotland as the perfect stage for events and our capital as the world’s leading festival city.
In the 70th year of Edinburgh’s Festivals and welcoming in Scotland’s Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology, the famous Street Party is set to be an unmissable event and will see revellers from more than 80 countries come together to enjoy performances by some of our leading artists and welcome in 2017 in true Scottish style.
Councillor Richard Lewis, Edinburgh's Festivals and Events Champion, added:
No other show on Earth compares with Edinburgh's Hogmanay and there really is no better way to bring in the bells. Our city’s next New Year's Eve experience promises to be a truly international celebration set against one of the most stunning backdrops imaginable. Early booking is a must.
