The Festival (15-24 July 2016) is now in its 38th year, and back in January made its first announcement about 2016, with gigs from Jools Holland and the Average White Band.

Now joining Jools and AWB are three more fantastic gigs, including American singer and saxophonist Curtis Stigers (above, centre), whose role in the Festival's Frank Sinatra tribute last year was a massive success.

Stigers and his band will play a full evening show this year, in the Festival's opening concert on Friday 15 July. Described by the Jazz Festival as "one of the greatest jazz singers of our age", Stigers will play what's sure to be a popular evening at Edinburgh's Festival Theatre.

The following night, 16 July, the same venue will host guitar grandmaster, John McLaughlin (above, right) with his new jazz-rock fusion band, regarded as one of the best he's worked with.

After a career involving collaborations with the likes of Miles Davis, Tony Williams, Carlos Santana, Chick Corea and Jaco Pastorius, McLaughlin has been called "the best guitarist alive" by rock musician Jeff Beck.

A third night at the Festival Theatre will see a very rare visit by legendary saxophonist Jan Garbarek (above, left), whose amazing and powerful playing have made him one of the best known jazz musicians in the world.

For the first time in 10 years, Garbarek will perform in Scotland, with his band including pianist, Rainer Bruninghaus, bassist, Yaron Herman, and superstar Indian percussionist, Trilok Gurtu.

These three concerts will go on sale on Wednesday 6 April at midday - ticketing and programme links

The seven acts include a ten-day residency from festival favourites Davina and the Vagabonds (above, left), a return for the amazing Hot 8 Brass Band and the ever popular Bratislava Hot Serenaders (above, second from right).

Also coming in July will be Warren Hayes, Alvin Youngblood Hart, hip-hop influenced The Mouse Outfit (above, second from left). and Cuban singer Daymé Arocema (above, right).

Tickets for these gigs, along with the rest of the Festival programme will be available from Wednesday 4 May
