Sellout Tattoo already looking ahead to 2016
Celebrating yet another sellout year, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo had another very successful August, with a huge cast of performers from around the world delivering on the event's 2015 theme, East meets West. And not content with that, they're planning for 2016 already...
Tickets for the August 2016 Tattoo will go on sale on 1 December at 10am GMT - and with half of the entire availability selling out on the very first day of sales last year, it's clear that the event's huge worldwide popularity continues. So much so in fact that all 220,000 tickets for this year were sold - the seventeenth year in a row that the Tattoo has sold out.
The 2015 Tattoo was subtitled East meets West, a theme embodied by performers from as far afield as China, India, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Europe, as well as Scotland and the rest of the UK.
The Tattoo entered into a partnership with Edinburgh Mela, to present 50 Bollywood dancers drawn both from India and from Scottish dance groups, performing parts of the spectacular Bollywood Love Story each night, prior to the full performance at the Mela itself at the end of the month.
Making their first appearance at the Tattoo were the Lotus Dragon Dance Folklore Group from Changxing, China, whose amazing stagecraft brought a dragon to life in front of the thousands gathered in the stands. China was further represented by the Military Band of the People’s Liberation Army of China, well known as China’s leading musical collective.
And with Highland Dancers, Shetland Fiddlers and the world-famous Massed Pipes and Drums, the host nation was well represented, as 2015's Tattoo thrilled and entertained those lucky enough to get their hands on a ticket.
