Bars in the festival city
Looking for a cool watering hole in the festival city? Whether you love a premium pint, a strong cocktail or an alcoholic slushy – Edinburgh's got it covered.
You’d be forgiven for not immediately finding Under The Stairs, tucked away as it is in a basement on Merchant Street, near the east end of the grassmarket. This bar with mismatched furniture and intimate lighting is an Old Town refuge for drinkers and diners alike and no moreso than during the hectic month of August.
Perfectly placed for Fringe fans, with venues in every direction, escape down the backstreet and into the comfort of this living room style bar for drink and a nibble.
FE suggests: Wine and cheese board at this bar – it goes hand in hand.
Hoot The Redeemer is the new kid on the block, and one to get to know soon.
Conveniently located centrally on Hanover Street, this cocktail bar is a big kid’s paradise with alcoholic slushies available to take away - perfect to savour if you're on your way to the nearby Book Festival or one of the major galleries hosting work for the Art Festival.
FE suggests: Señor Scoop Reyka ice cream, now available to take away in the summer sun!
If you’ve ever seen The Big Lebowski you’ll have anticipated where we’re going with this one. Lebowski’s Bar at Edinburgh’s West End (ideal for International Festival venues like the Usher Hall, Lyceum and EICC) has one of the biggest White Russian selections we've ever seen!
With a multiple variations of the classic cocktail and special editions, you’ll have more than you bargained for here. But that's just, like, our opinion, man...
FE suggests: A drink from the Frozen White Russian selection, it’s an icy twist on the classic and topped with whipped cream.
