Welcome to 2022

Momentum Alumni - Welcome to 2021!

While we’re sad we can’t welcome all our international friends in person this year, we’re delighted to connect with you virtually, signposting the wealth of live arts and culture Edinburgh's Festivals have to offer in 2021.

Covid taught us the heart-breaking lesson that to stay safe we had to stay apart; now we need to relearn ways to stay safe while coming together.

The way so many turned to music, books and onscreen drama during lockdowns worldwide showed beyond doubt how important arts and culture are for human well-being.  We’re sure we share with all of you a passionate belief that live arts can be a beacon of hope after a dark year. That’s why we’re taking the first carefully managed steps in restarting Edinburgh’s peak festivals season throughout August.

Although it’s only a fraction of the global gathering Scotland’s capital is famous for, we’re determined the work will be as exciting as ever and will enable artists to show that they can come back safely and help the restart of live work across our country and beyond.

And we are determined to nurture our precious international links, albeit this year mainly through digital channels. The past year has arguably kick-started a digital revolution we knew was overdue and there is no doubt our digital programmes are here to stay, increasing accessibility at home and abroad.

We look forward to connecting you, our Momentum Alumni, with the wide variety of online work and industry events available on digital platforms this year.  We hope you find some interesting and thought-provoking ideas here and would love to hear what you think!  To contact a member of the Momentum team with any enquiries or questions email momentum@festivalsedinburgh.com

Look forward to reconnecting and wishing you every health and strength from here in Scotland,

 Julia, Norah and Lorna

Julia Amour, Director, Festivals Edinburgh
Norah Campbell, Head of Arts, British Council Scotland
Lorna Duguid, Multi-artforms Manager, Creative Scotland
