EIF Dancing in the Streets (Alice Ripoll)

20 August - 18 September, on-demand (60 mins)

Alice Ripoll runs two dance companies, one of which is based in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. For her International Festival commission, she made a film during the pandemic with the dancers of this company within a shared house ‘bubble’. The dancers’ movements are shaped by their environment and they in turn shape the environment with their bodies. Extremity of life in the favelas is manifest in the choreographic work and the film is ultimately a celebration of the dancers; their lives, bodies, music and movements. This event begins with a special filmed introduction from Alice Ripoll.

Does instant connectivity help our attempts to make meaningful relationships with our surroundings and our fellow humans? Or does it reinforce feelings of isolation and inadequacy as we reflect upon and react to connections made and lost? A dynamic exploration of the ways in which modern methods of communications affect us all, using dance, physicality, aerial acrobatics, tight-wire walking and original music. A modern love story set in our digitally connected world. Distanced by a world of wires, two lost individuals work on finding each other, but in doing so must first find themselves.

Join the team behind the show for a free online Meet the Artist event on Friday 27th August @ 8pm.
